Help & HowTo

On this page we try to get you up-to-date informed with all the techniques required to get a real good GridHopper. We do that with links for further reading and also with self written help and HowTo's.

First of all, GridHop is mainly aimed for use with the clients built-in web browser. The simplest way to access the GridHop interface is to login to your favorite grid or standalone and type the URL http://gridhop.net/ into the chat window. Then just click it from the chat window. That opens the built-in web browser. Here you can browse and search the GridHop database and spot the place you like to visit.

But wait! Don't click the links to fast!

What is the difference between teleport and hyperlink?

Both actions will change your location (if the grid god's are with you). We talk about teleport when we change the place we are right now to a new location somewhere in the same grid. That might be the other edge of the region you are right now, the neighbour region or any region in the same grid. When we use hyperlink techniques, we also teleport. But right now it's a special case because the underlying protocols are far more advanced. A lot more components need to get informed because it's not just communication between your client and the grid you are right now, there is also another grid involved.

Because of these differences, you should be sure you are in a suitable region. Thats because the region, or better, the simulator, you are at, must be hypergrid enabled when you like to hop to another grid. Only from hypergrid enabled regions you are able to use hypergid teleport techniques.

For the GridHopper's the difference is in the 'URL's.

The normal URL used to teleport in the same grid follows this schema:

secondlife://regionname/X/Y/Z

while a hypergrid teleport 'URL' looks like that:

secondlife://hostaddress:port:regionname/X/Y/Z
